Wedding Countdown: How God Answered Prayer for Bringing Two People Together

My church has a tradition called “Shout Out.” That is, every so often the Sunday morning service focuses on testimonies or “shout outs” about what God is doing in individuals’ lives. Yesterday a couple of men told how God had recently healed physical injuries, to the amazement of medical professionals treating them. These stories build my faith and remind me of how God is actively at work in our lives today.

David proposes to Kim--a mountaintop experience!

This week is a big one for our family as our youngest daughter will marry on Saturday, August 17. God’s hand has been so evident in bringing Kim and David together and in the wedding details that I want to “shout out” my thanks to Him—one per day as we count down to the wedding. Here’s today’s “shout out:”

My husband and I began praying for our kids’ future spouses when our children were toddlers. A couple of years ago, however, I added a few specific requests for Kim and the man she would someday marry, whoever he might be.

“God,” I prayed. “Please guard Kim and her future husband from getting involved with anyone until they meet each other. When they meet, please allow them to know with certainty that this is the person with whom they’re to spend the rest of their lives. And please—grant them a storybook romance as they seek to honor You.”

Kim and David met last February at a mutual friend’s memorial service. They struck up a conversation that afternoon, discovered that they enjoyed many of the same activities, and then spent three evenings together in the next week. Both were completing university studies and working. And both were uninvolved in relationships with members of the opposite sex.

Theirs has indeed been a storybook romance. And they know with certainty that they want to spend the rest of their lives together. David proposed on July 13, and the wedding details have come together in less than five weeks.

Some folks say this has happened quickly, and they’re right. But nothing’s wrong with quick when God is in it. My in-laws met on a blind date on New Year’s Eve and married four months later. Theirs was a 62-year union, ending only when my mother-in-law passed away. My husband and I met at the end of June, 1981, and married in February the following year. Our  marriage is nearly 32 years old, and we’re more in love today than ever before.

Kim is 26; David is 30. They’re pursuing medical careers with the goal of using their skills in missions someday. To God be the glory for bringing this man and woman together. I can hardly wait to see how He’s going to use them.

Join me tomorrow for another “shout out!”
