Conntecting the Dots

Daddy, Daddy, Daddy

“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us,

that we should be called children of God!” 1 John 3:1 (NLT)

Scripture portrays God as our heavenly father. Some people find comfort in this truth. Others shudder due to pain associated with their earthly father. I took it for granted until God caught my attention.

Sunday morning dawned at a retreat where I was speaking. I’d just finished dressing when I heard a gentle voice say, “Daddy.”

“God, is that You?” I asked. Divine presence and love enveloped me, and I knew the answer.

I left my room and walked to the dining area. A woman approached carrying her Bible and journal. She smiled and said, “I had a wonderful time with my daddy this morning.”

My face must have registered surprise for she asked, “You know who I’m talking about, right?”

“Oh yes, I know,” I said, and then I told her about the encounter a few minutes prior.

At the airport that evening, I opened a book I’d packed. My eyes immediately fell on the words, “Our heavenly daddy.”

Daddy. Daddy. Daddy. Three times in one day, God revealed Himself using this term of endearment, and my understanding of His character forever changed.

Imagine what this means: Father God cares about our hurts and dreams. He provides, counsels, protects, and comforts. He calms us when we’re afraid, and He carries us when we’re weary.

God is our heavenly father, but He’s also our warm and loving daddy. Do you know Him as such?

Jesus loved not his life even unto death.

He said he came to do the will of the Father; and not his own.

Indeed, our Victorious King is the one who loves us more than anyone else can…….and His love in unending.

Abba Father is tender and compassionate, but He’s also the King who will return someday as the mighty Conqueror! And we’re on His team! It doesn’t get much better than that.
