Feeling Lost, Lonely, or Unloved?

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

What does your day look like? I’ll babysit my grandkiddies this morning and then spend the afternoon polishing several presentations for the Inscribe writers conference to be held in Edmonton this weekend. But before my morning fully launches, I want to share a promise from God’s Word. If you’re feeling lost, lonely, or unloved, then let these Scriptures wash over your mind and heart like a soothing balm:

“For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the LORD, who has mercy on you….”Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink–even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk–it’s all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life” (Isaiah 44:10, 55:1-3a).

Whatever your day looks like, remember that God loves you and will never leave you. He holds the key to life. Call to Him for help, and He will answer because you’re precious to Him.

God is Doing Good Things in Romania – Part 4

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

The bonding that happens in a few days between campers and ministry teams is difficult to understand until you’ve experienced it. Everyone exchanged hugs, hugs and more hugs when the van arrived to take the kids home. Many traded email addresses and Facebook identities. Most cried. We’ve shared jokes and laughter, worship and prayer, splashes in the pool, music, meals and more, and hearts have been knit together.

Saying goodbye to our new friends – in a way, our adopted sons and daughters – was difficult because there’s no guarantee we’ll see them again. Expense and distance lie between us, but thankfully with today’s technology we can stay in touch. That was my only consolation as I waved goodbye. My guess is that the kids feel the same way about leaving – several stuck their hands out the van windows and waved until the vehicle disappeared around a curve.

Team members have commented that this experience has helped them understand that people are similar no matter where we live. We all want to be loved. We all want to feel valued. And we all hate to say goodbye to those we care about.

My prayer is that relationships will continue to deepen over the next months via computer technology so that when we return in 2011, we’ll pick up where we left off as though separation had never happened.

“Thank You, God, for loving these kids. Thank You for promising to be their refuge and strength. Thank You for promising to be with them at all times no matter what they face. Please keep them safe. Provide for their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Send them daily reminders of Your love for them. And bring us back together again in the near future. Amen.”

A Joyful Heart

Friday, January 12th, 2007

On my desk sits a perpetual calendar filled with wonderful quotes. Today’s quote is from composer Joseph Haydn. He said, “When I think upon my God, my heart is so full of joy that the notes dance and leap from my pen; and since God has given me a cheerful heart, it will be pardoned me that I serve Him with a cheerful spirit.”

Sometimes we allow real-life problems to weigh us down and steal our joy. But Joseph’s words remind us that thinking upon God gives us a cheerful heart. I’ve found that to be true. When I focus on circumstances that are less than desirable, my joy fizzles. My spirit is left feeling like a withered balloon. And what does my countenance reflect? Let’s just say it ain’t a pretty sight. A woman with a positive influence? Forget it.

But when I think upon my God and His control over my circumstances, my heart is once again filled with joy. It’s never a bubbly, giddy feeling. Rather, it’s a deep-settled sense that everything’s under His control and I can rest. I can know that He’s at work in my situation, and I’m at peace. My countenance reflects my heart condition, and a smile is a natural overflow.

The next time we feel empty or discouraged, let’s think upon our God. Guaranteed, those thoughts will fill our hearts with cheer and enable us to serve Him with a cheerful heart. Therein lies the secret to being women of influence.

(Maybe this God-talk sounds foreign to you. Perhaps the only reference to God you’ve known is negative. Let me assure you, that’s not the case. If you want to know more about who God is, drop me a note!)

Know you are loved,
Grace
