“I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word” (Psalm 130:5).
What does it mean to count on something or someone? It means we place our trust in it. We have confidence that it can help us.
All too often we count on things we can touch and see – a close friend, our spouse, career, the food stockpiled in our cupboards and freezer, a house in which to live, our investments, our health. But what happens when those things fail or disappear? We’re left in a lurch, hurt, disappointed, sometimes devastated.
But God will never leave or disappoint us. We can count on Him. We can put our hope and trust in His word, and He will always fulfill His promises.
This is a great verse with which to start each morning. Let’s make it our prayer: “I’m counting on you, Lord, to give me wisdom for today. To provide for my needs. To protect me from the evil one and give me strength to resist temptation. I’m counting on you to direct my steps. I’m putting my hope in your word! Amen.”
