The LORD is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth. He grants the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them. (Psalm 145:18,19 NLT)
Have you ever prayed about something for a long time, wondering why God doesn’t answer? Several reasons could account for the seeming lack of divine response:
- Perhaps the timing is wrong. God will eventually grant your heart’s desire. Keep asking, but be patient.
- Perhaps the answer is a definitive no. God knows what’s best in the big picture. He may be protecting you from harm or preserving you for something much better than you can imagine. Ask Him to show you how to pray according to His will.
- Perhaps the motive for asking is wrong, or maybe unconfessed sin is hindering your relationship with God. Confess the sin and change your way to align with God’s truth.
God longs for relationship with us, and He delights to answer our prayers. But if we expect Him to listen to us, help us, and be close to us, then we need to do our part and live in a way that honors Him. We can’t live contrary to His truth and then expect Him to cater to our whims and wishes.
Let’s pursue godliness so we can enjoy God’s closeness and receive His answers to our prayers.
