Imagine a conversation that sounds something like this:
“So, I heard that you’ve faced a few stresses lately. How are you doing?”
“Truth be told, I’m hanging on, but only by a thread.”
What impression does the person’s answer give? That life is tough and she’s barely coping.
I’ve felt that way a few times, but I’ve learned that my attitude towards my circumstances bears a huge influence on my ability to deal with them. If I routinely entertain thoughts about how difficult my situation is and how I can’t survive the ride and how I can’t cope any longer, then I’m sure to drown.
Conversely, if I train myself to counter fearful thoughts with biblical truths about the character of God and His presence in our lives, then I will rise above the negative impact these thoughts could have on me.
Here’s a God-thought that’s played a significant role in my faith journey: “…Despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us” (Romans 8:37 NLT).
We’ll all face situations that challenge our faith, but none have the ability to sink us. None. Why? Because Christ loves us beyond what words can express, and He sits at the Father’s side pleading on our behalf (Romans 6:37). We are more than conquerors. No matter what we face, overwhelming victory is ours.
As Christ’s followers, we don’t barely survive the trials we face. We don’t survive them by a hair. Truth is, we overwhelmingly overcome them like David overcame Goliath because of the power of Christ in us.
Write Romans 8:37 on a recipe card and post it where you’ll see it often. Every time the enemy tries to discourage you, remind him of the truth and then walk, run, jump, and dance in the victory that’s yours!
