Blizzards and Bathrooms--or Lack Thereof - Grace Fox

The bathroom was in a different building. Going outside in the storm meant bundling up in my parka. What a sight! Enough to make Frosty the Snowman laugh!

If only my readers could see me now, I thought when I got up at 2 a.m. to visit the bathroom.

The bathroom was in a different building…and it was still snowing outside. I wore a polar fleece nightie and socks (with pom-poms at the ankles, nonetheless) to stay warm in bed at night. Going outside in the storm meant bundling up in my parka. For ease, I slipped on my street shoes – black pumps with heels. What a sight! Enough to make Frosty the Snowman keel over laughing!

This morning I woke feeling lousy. My whole body ached. My head hurt when I coughed. I felt chilled to the bone. The flu bug bit during the night, and I wished I could just stay in bed, but no such luck. Following a meeting with our IM team in Timisoara, it was time to catch a plane for Bucharest.

Speaking of planes, ours didn’t feel much like flying today. We’d boarded and were waiting for take-off when the pilot announced that it was having mechanical troubles and we’d be delayed. A few minutes later, he clarified by saying we’d be delayed a half hour.

The flight attendant began serving juice. Minutes later, the pilot told us to get off the plane and return to the terminal because it would be more like three hours. The flight attendant collected the trash, and we disembarked.

And there began our afternoon in the Timisoara airport, with me popping Ibuprofen to kill the body aches. Oh, where’s a bed when I need one?

Flexibility is the key phrase for anyone wanting to survive and thrive on a short-term ministry trip.
