Finding Calm in Chaos
Fixing our heart on God leads us to a safe place, a place where peace and clarity reign, a place where we find calm in chaos.
Fixing our heart on God leads us to a safe place, a place where peace and clarity reign, a place where we find calm in chaos.
We are finite beings so we often view our circumstances on a finite timeline. The clock ticks, and we grow anxious. We begin to doubt whether God hears us.
Give the Lord your five small barley loaves and two small fish. There’s no telling what He might do with them, for little is much in God’s hands.
We can’t begin to understand His purposes for our pain, but we can rest assured that He is doing something good in His eternal plan.
Storms will come and go. God’s promises help us navigate the wind and waves to a safe harbor. We can trust Him and not be afraid.
Today’s blog is an excerpt from my book, Keeping Hope Alive: Devotions for Strength in the Storm. May it encourage you when you’re at a loss about how to pray.
God has purposes yet unseen for our lives, too. Every one of the hardships we experience are part of the pruning and honing necessary to prepare us.
How do we respond to suffering? Do we get angry or fall into self-pity? Or do we allow God to use our pain to refine us and make us more like Jesus?
Trusting God means yielding our desire for control to the One who is in control. It means admitting our understanding of a troubling situation is incomplete.
God cares deeply about what concerns me and you, and he invites us to come to his throne room anytime day or night. We needn’t fear interrupting him.
I pray that today’s post will encourage and inspire you. It’s an excerpt from my devotional book Finding Hope in Crisis: Devotions for Calm in Chaos.
Crisis changes life in a nanosecond. It can rob us of routine, ruin our ability to sleep well, and remove our capability to think straight.
God is good not only when life is good. He’s good all the time. Even when life stinks. Even when the furnace dies in winter.
Our beliefs turn us to God for help and to trust that He knows our concerns and hears our cries. We pray in faith believing His answer is the best answer.
Let’s commit to viewing the unforeseen through God’s eyes. Let’s embrace whatever He brings and seek to partner with Him to accomplish His purposes.
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it,” says Psalm 118:24. These words resonate with us some days more than others. Do you agree?
We can create a fiasco if we plunge into our plans without first consulting the Expert and giving Him the freedom to do with them whatever He knows is best.
Joseph acknowledged his powerlessness and trusted God for the words to say. Three little words spoken in faith-“but God will”-moved him from prison to palace.
Our body shapes differ. Our personalities differ. Our interests and giftedness differ. Our heavenly Father, who creates miracles of beauty, makes no mistakes.
Jesus, Prince of Peace, came into our world so He could live in us. His power at work within us ought to help us worship, rather than worry.
Even though I wrote a book about moving beyond fear, I still struggle with it occasionally. Thankfully, it doesn’t consume or paralyze me anymore.
Discouragement and fear affect different people in different ways. Regardless, God’s given us a weapon to break its grip. That weapon is praise.
Healthy communication is key to a healthy marriage. It’s also key to a vibrant relationship with Jesus. Let’s be intentional to keep both relationships strong.
I cling to the truth that no matter what happens to me, I’m a victor because God is the king of my life. No harm touches me unless He allows it.
Sometimes we run ahead of God’s timing, or try to manipulate our circumstances. Why? Because we doubt God’s ability to fulfill His purposes for us.
Giving thanks when life’s easy is well, easy. Doing it when life hurts is another thing. That’s when expressing gratitude is most important.
I feel afraid of shadows sometimes. They often come in the form of the “what-ifs. What shadows frighten you? Here’s reassurance to help overcome that fear.
Fear is rampant but it needn’t paralyze us. Here’s how we can move from fear to freedom.
“I listen carefully to what God the LORD is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people” (Psalm 85:8). What is the Lord saying to you?
The best part of my new assignment is spending 12 hours a day in God’s Word as I seek to make His truths relevant to my readership.
You work. You wait. You pray. Meanwhile, God is working behind the scenes, orchestrating every detail to bring His purposes into being
Why did the driver drop us at the train station prior to the one our directions stated? Because Iwona was working there, and God is drawing her to Himself.
Women around the world share many similarities. One of them is the ability to make a soul connection in a short time.
Spending my day like this wasn’t on my radar. I’m encouraged to know that it didn’t take God by surprise. He knows where that manuscript is.
No matter what circumstances you and I face–and I guarantee we will face tough stuff–we can rest assured that the Lord will care for us.
When God gives an assignment, our tendency is to say, “Who, me? I can’t do that.” Fear looms, and we offer excuses such as, “I’m not smart enough.”
