God Speaks to Us Through Spiritual Hunger
Sometimes He speaks to me through a sermon or a song or someone else’s quotes, but the way He communicates with me each morning is different.
Doesn’t it thrill you when someone whose friendship you enjoy invites you to spend time together?
Personally, I love it when my husband says, “Come, sit beside me for a bit, okay? Let’s talk.” I totally enjoy it when my kids ask to Facetime. Nothing beats being together with the special people in one’s life.
Sitting with God
Every day I sense God asking me to sit with Him for a little while. Sometimes He speaks to me through a sermon or a song or someone else’s quotes, but the way He communicates with me early each morning is different.
His voice comes as a craving in my soul, a yearning to connect with my Creator, the sense that I’ll be trying to function in a void unless I feed that desire with what it seeks.
My flawed humanity says I don’t have time. “Get real, Grace. Look at the length of your to-do list. You’d best get on with your day if you hope to tackle your tasks.”
But my heart says otherwise: “Time with Jesus matters more than anything. Keep first things first. Give Him priority and He’ll give you His perspective for anything that comes your way today.”
The psalmist penned it well when he wrote,
“My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘LORD, I am coming’” (Psalm 27:8 NLT).
God speaks to us by placing within our hearts a spiritual hunger only He can satisfy.

We need our time with the Lord, and yes, preferably before anything else.
I find that, if I put off my time with Jesus until later in the day, it gets relegated to the back burner. How about you?
Yes!!! This is how things seem to work! First things first is all through the Bible, right? There’s a real good reason for that. I know how easy it is to just relax back and let things go as they will……..BUT, when we rise early, and begin our talk with God or go into the Word or a good devotional book, I believe it changes everything and sets the path for that day. We don’t always want to do this and God certainly understands us when we want to sleep in and just lounge a day out sometimes. On the whole, seeking God first in our lives, and first thing in the day, I believe, makes a better day. Yes, when we “leave it til later”, who knows when we’ll get back to it. It reminds me of other thing too, like phoning a friend to see how their adoption proceedings are coming along, or how their hubby is doing in the hospital, or just how my friend is doing that day; if I do it right away, for the most part it will be a joy to them and me, and a total blessing in their day, that someone thought about them and what was going on in their lives. If I put that off, chances are I never get to it. It’s kinda like: Bless someone today, or just don’t bother, right?
Seek ye first the kingdom of God — and everything else falls into place 🙂
There’s so much more to God than we can even imagine. The more I study the Word of God, the more I realize how little I know.
