God Speaks to Us with Truth and Life

Hearing God’s Voice – Pt. 2 - Grace Fox

How can we discern God’s voice amidst so many others crying for our attention?

Here’s a litmus test that never fails: God’s voice speaks truth and life. Makes sense, right? After all, Jesus Christ was God in flesh, and He declared Himself to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He will never speak words contrary to who He is.

Here’s an example

I’ve met countless Christian women whose behavior reveals the lack of a healthy understanding of their personal worth.

Some are controllers. The fear of inadequacy prompts them to manipulate circumstances and other people.

Some are timid. The fear of inadequacy and failure leaves them scared to make decisions.

Some try to mask insecurities with laughter and jokes. And some scarcely make eye contact in conversation.

A common denominator

A heart-to-heart talk with each woman would reveal a common denominator: A voice in their head tells them that they have nothing to offer. It whispers a lie—“You’re not good enough. Try harder.” It says they don’t matter, no one cares, and no one loves them.

Are these words true? Absolutely not. God’s Word reassures us that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). It says He delights in us (Zephaniah 3:17), and His presence in us gives reason to not be afraid (Joshua 1:9). When we compare the message they’re hearing with the Truth, we know the voice they hear doesn’t belong to God.

God speaks truth and life

When we hear inner whispers telling us anything otherwise, we need to put them through this filter: Is what I’m hearing true? Is what I’m hearing life-giving?

If the answer is no, then we needn’t give those whispers an ounce of attention. Let’s refuse to listen to them and, instead, tune our ears to God’s voice of truth and life.

Know you are loved,

Grace

  1. Every day I have to “take captive every thought and put it under the Blood of Christ”. Then I bind the enemy, and loose the Holy Spirit, which always brings Peace. Then I speak to “that” mountain and tell it to be removed (any problem), and then I call forth the blessings of God, and tell God that I only want to hear from Him. I still trust in His “still, small voice” within.
Once in awhile, I hear a quiet voice that seems to come from “around” me, or “close to me”, and i can pretty well determine that it’s God. Just recently I woke suddenly from sleep and heard specific words, naming a place I’ve never heard of, in Africa. I looked it up on the computer, and as far as I can see, there is no such place, so I just told God, about that, and that I wanted to do my best for him, and then I simply told him, “I’ll pray for that place-name for whatever it means, and then left it with Him.

  2. Yes, it could be. I’m praying for it anyway, whatever it is/means. This is all I heard, and it was amazingly clear, not once, but about four times now.
    “High Plains”, Africa.

  3. I was thinking the same, especially after looking it up. I don’t have any idea what it’s for or anything but we continue to pray for whatever God sent it to me for. One thing that has happened out of all this is that my husband who has experienced multiple and countless health problems since 2010, suddenly gets a clean bill of health from the doctor today (Sept.28/16), and although they wanted to do more tests to “see if they could find anything else”, he told them “No”, I’d like to end it here, and put my full trust in God for my well being”. That’s a new one for him. And they accepted it with no argument. Whether any of these things are connected or not, I just happened to notice certain things taking place since we were praying for this region. ??????? God knows. He always knows what to do, and how to do it. Amen, and Hallalujah.

  4. Okay, so Grace……even since the 28th of Sept. my husband’s health is continuing to improve. A great burden has lifted off him and he looks relaxed for the first time in 6-7 years. He continues to trust God for his restoration, and daily he is notably healthier and so much happier. Joy is returning and he is becoming more like who he really is. (For about 3 years straight, he didn’t seem to really “be here”—- he seemed “afar off”, and (pardon me) would say ridiculous things. That’s all gone since he refused more tests and stood upon the Word of God. His movements are easier for him and he does not look “old mannish” now. Praise our Living God!!!!

  5. I should mention this too. An old aquaintance of ours whom we met through the Women’s Aglow a few years ago has sent us an email requesting prayer for her daughter who is preparing to go to Africa. My eyes bugged out at that one.
She didn’t put on any details, so I know no further than that as yet. I will respond to her and get details……..interesting…..but will give them a little time now because something else has happened in their family.
Just as her daughter was in this prep. stage for some type of missionary work, someone else in their family gave birth to a stillborn child. They’re preparing for a funeral just now.
