Reflect On Truth-Filled Thoughts at Night - Grace Fox

If negative nighttime thoughts trouble you, ask the Lord for the strength and ability to exchange them for these seven truths.

A certain television ad shows a woman struggling with insomnia. She tosses and turns on her bed while thoughts bing-bang through her head. Thoughts such as, What if the hokey-pokey really is what it’s all about?

Perhaps you can relate. You lie awake at night entertaining thoughts that seem to come from nowhere. Sometimes they make sense; sometimes not. They might be song lyrics. They might be plans for a birthday party or an upcoming vacation. Or they might be panicked thoughts about fulfilling a commitment you regret making, or worries about an ailing parent or a wayward child.

The focus of our reflections matters

Our nighttime thoughts play a significant role in our daytime perspective and, ultimately, the path our lives take. Allowing the negative and fearful to rule does only harm. Reflecting on the stuff that worries or scares us only serves to embed those worries. But reflecting on who God is—pondering on the truth as opposed to the enemy’s lies and the what-ifs—changes everything.

Reflect on these truths

If negative nighttime thoughts trouble you, then ask the Lord for the strength and ability to exchange them for thoughts such as these:

  • God is bigger than anything I will ever face.
  • In Christ, I am more than a conqueror.
  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
  • I make my plans, but the Lord directs my steps. I can trust Him.
  • God promises to withhold no good thing from me if I walk uprightly.
  • God promises to turn bad into good, ashes into beauty.
  • God is able to answer my prayers in a way that far exceeds anything I can ask or imagine.

Reflecting on these truths in the nighttime brings confidence in the day. Ultimately, they transform our minds and enable us to face with courage whatever comes our way.

Question

How do you overcome negative nighttime thoughts?

Know you are loved,
