The Difference Between Drawn and Driven

The Difference Between Drawn and Driven - Grace Fox

The driven person doubts whether his efforts have been sufficient whereas the drawn person senses the Father’s whisper, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

“Live as a drawn person, not a driven person.” These words, spoken by a guest pastor in our church yesterday, sum up my heart’s desire.

A driven person

To me, being a driven person means constantly feeling as though 24 hours in a day aren’t enough. It means seeking to fulfill others’ expectations no matter the cost to personal health or relationships. It means striving to attain personal success, and putting programs and performance ahead of people.

The result? Stress

Misplaced priorities. A life void of joy and the freedom to be spontaneous. A life that leaves us wishing for calm and wanting more than writing to-do lists that never end.

Can you relate? I sure can!

A drawn person

Living as a drawn person looks much different. To me, this means making Jesus our first priority. It means hearing His voice regarding what truly matters, when to say yes, and how to say no.

The result? Peace

Right priorities. A life characterized by joy and the freedom to be available to whatever and wherever the Holy Spirit directs.

At the end of the day, the driven person doubts whether his efforts have been sufficient whereas the drawn person senses the Father’s whisper, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and rests in His embrace.

The drawn person also knows the reality of Psalm 23:2

”He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.”

The pressure to achieve and the push to please man dissipate as the Holy Spirit shows us where to focus time and energy.

Driven or drawn. I know which one I want to be, and I’m asking God to accomplish this in me.

How about you?

Which one are you?

Know you are loved,

Grace
