3 Life-Giving Promises to Bring You Hope

Hold onto these three promises because they will bring you hope: Jesus will give you rest. He will be with you. He will come for you someday.
While listening to a faith-based podcast recently, I learned that Scripture contains more than 6,000 promises. I’d never stopped to think about biblical promises in numerical terms like that, so I was quite amazed. That’s the b-i-g promise picture. I’ve zoomed in to give you three life-giving promises that will bring you hope. I know they’ll encourage you no matter where you are on your faith journey.
Living-giving promise #1 – “I will give you rest”
Have you ever felt weary to the core? By this I mean physically tired, emotionally drained, and mentally exhausted.
I’ve felt that way occasionally. As a mom with young children—one of whom required frequent hospitalizations—I sometimes wondered whether I would ever feel rested again.
I felt the same as I watched my elderly mother struggle in the last months of her life. Sailor-Man and I drove twelve hours one-way to her place several times in a short span to see her, serve her by helping sort her belongings and get her condo ready for sale, and sit by her bedside as she transitioned to heaven.
That’s when I experienced the truth of this promise:
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)
Jesus promised to give rest to all who are weary and carry heavy burdens. If that description fits you, then spend a few silent minutes in Jesus’s presence. Tell Him how you feel and thank Him for promising to give you rest. I don’t know what that will look like in your situation, but I do know He always keeps His word.
Life-giving promise #2 – “I will be with you”
Perhaps God is nudging you to do something beyond your comfort zone, and fear of inadequacy hinders you from saying yes. Hmmm. Been there, done that. Sounds a bit like Moses, yes? (Exodus 3:12) God addressed Moses’s fear by reassuring him of His presence. If He’s calling you to a task, He will be with you, too.
Maybe you’re lonely and wishing for a good friend. Perhaps you’ve just started a new job or moved to a new town, and you’re feeling like an outsider looking in. Know this, my friend: you are not alone.
Moments before Jesus ascended to heaven, He made this promise to His disciples:
“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
Then Jesus made good on His Word by asking the Father to send the Holy Spirit to live inside of His followers. Two thousand years later, this promise to always be with us remains true. Why? Because Jesus always keeps His word.
Life-giving promise #3 – “I will come for you”
When my family lived on Quadra Island, we often took a ten-minute ferry ride to the nearest town to go shopping, attend church, or visit friends. One Friday night, our nineteen-year-old daughter returned to Quadra on the 11:30 PM ferry. The ferry docked about fifteen minutes later, and she disembarked expecting me and her dad to be waiting for her in the parking lot.
I’m embarrassed to admit it, but Sailor-Man and I had fallen asleep around 10 PM. We’d set an alarm to wake us in time to fetch Kim, but we slept through it. We woke only when the phone rang.
“Hello,” said caller. “Am I speaking to Kim Fox’s father?”
Sailor-Man said yes.
“This is Sargeant So-and-So from the local police detachment. Your daughter is here. Can you come for her, please?”
We felt like the world’s worst parents. When Kim disembarked from the ferry and discovered that we weren’t in the parking lot as we’d promised, she began the long walk home. This was no small ordeal.
It was December, and temperatures hovered around freezing. It was also nearly midnight, and about four miles lay between the ferry and home. The road was rural and dark. Thankfully, it led past the police station. When Kim saw lights on inside the station, she stopped and explained her predicament.
Kim’s dad and I had promised to come for her, but we failed to fulfill. Thankfully, we can trust Jesus to do better. He said these words:
There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. (John 14:2-3 NLT)
This world feels like it has turned wonky, and we can’t help but wonder how long the chaos will continue. The good news is, this world is not our final home. Someday Jesus will come for us and take us to the home He’s preparing. The sorrow, sickness, and madness we’re experiencing here won’t touch us there. Seriously, some days I can hardly wait!
We don’t know when Jesus will come for us, but we know He will. We hang onto hope for our eternal future because Jesus always keeps His word.
3 life-giving promises to bring you hope
In the wake of recent tragedies – wildfires, floods, hurricanes, and plane crashes – and the fear of sky-high inflation and job losses over looming tariffs, I sometimes feel as though hope is in short supply. But God’s Word reminds me otherwise.
As surely as God is alive and well, so His words remain faithful and true. No matter what circumstances you face today, hold onto hope by remembering these three life-giving promises: Jesus will give you rest. He will be with you. He will come for you someday.
How about you?
Which of these three promises resonates most with you today, and why?
Jesus will give you rest. He will be with you. He will come for you someday.

Thank you so much for this today, Grace. I needed to hear all three promises.
I appreciate you very much!
You’re welcome, Katherina. At this time in history when it looks like the world is coming to an end (well, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration….or not!), I think we would all do well to focus on promises like this. They settle my heart and remind me that God is still alive and well. Therein lies our hope, right?
May He settle your heart today,
Grace
Thank you Father,
Like a malnourished human being, I’ve been reading, studying and trying to spend more and more time in His Word, praying and meditating and seeking peace in the midst of all that is going on around us. Thank you for these comforting words, Grace. They are a healing balm to my soul.
Blessings, Genevia
Hi Genevia:
I can empathize with you. It feels like things have gone nutty in our world. We all need the peace that God’s promises provide. Keep your focus on them, my friend. May they continue to provide that healing balm for the soul.
Know you are loved,
Grace
Grace, thank you so much for words I needed today! The verse that comes to my mind is John 16:33. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you WILL have trouble. But TAKE HEART! I have overcome the world.” All of my hope, today and every day, is in Jesus!
Hi Suzanne:
Amen, and amen to what you said. We will take heart because Jesus is alive and well and is praying for us, that we might stand firm in the midst of this craziness happening around us.
Know you are loved,
Grace
Thanks for reminding us of these promises, with humility & humour! In light of the world’s recent crazy and unpredictable events, the promise most resonating with me today (if I have to choose only one) is that Jesus will come for me. When disappointed in global leaders, I am reminded that we are aliens in a temporary home, as a truly loving, benevolent, just King and and Kingdom await!
Hi Donna:
I find this promise of Jesus coming for us so encouraging. Someday, all injustice will be settled. All sorrows and tears wiped away. No more chaos. No more division or demands like “Who’s side are you on, anyway?” Jesus will be acknowledged as King and every knee will bow to Him alone. What a day that will be, right? Until then, may He find us faithful, and may we live to bring a smile to His face.
Know you are loved,
Grace
