A Must-Have Attitude When We Seek Guidance
Seeking direction? God promises to give guidance, but there’s a prerequisite.
Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. (Psalm 25:4)
We face decisions daily
Sometimes they’re easy, but other times they’re complicated and potentially life-altering. Consider these scenarios:
Sometimes we allow the fear of making the wrong decision to paralyze us. I know someone who remained in the same career for thirty years even though her giftings were in other places. She repeatedly expressed frustration and even eyed other possibilities, but she couldn’t bring herself to change because fear of insecurity loomed so large.
Those who walk in right relationship with God need not be afraid of making the wrong decision. Scripture is clear—God leads us. But there’s a catch: we need to have a teachable heart.
The importance of humility
Psalm 25:8-10 says, “The LORD is good and does what is right; he shows the proper path to those who go astray. He leads the humble in doing right, teaching them his way. The LORD leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his commands.” (emphasis mine)
A humble heart—one that admits its need for God—is imperative. If we figure we can do life on our own, He’ll let us try and fail. But when we admit we need His wisdom and guidance, He will answer. He will prove His faithfulness to us as we lean on and obey Him.
God leads the humble because He knows they’ll follow Him. Let’s admit our need for Him and then trust Him to guide us when we face decisions. He is good and does what is right. His unfailing love and faithfulness assure that He will keep us heading the right direction.
