Christ is Our Hiding Place, Our Sanctuary

Christ is our hiding place, our sanctuary - Grace Fox

Scripture says Satan is our enemy; he constantly prowls about seeking ways to destroy us. We find safety from his evil intent when we hide ourselves in Christ.

“You are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory” (Psalm 32:7 NLT)

In 2001, I had the privilege of visiting Corrie ten Boom’s family home in Haarlem, Netherlands. It stands as a museum today, a tribute to the ten Boom’s courage and sacrificial kindness in hiding Jews from the enemy during WWII.

The hiding place

Accurately dubbed the “hiding place,” this home provided a sanctuary for men and women alike. Finding physical safety there cost the Jews nothing, but providing it on their behalf cost Corrie and her family dearly.

Sadly, she, her dad, and her younger sister were caught and sent to a concentration camp. Corrie survived, but her dad and younger sister died.

Christ is our hiding place

Scripture says Christ is our hiding place. It also says that Satan is our enemy; he constantly prowls about seeking ways to destroy us. We find safety from the enemy’s evil intent when we hide ourselves in Christ.

In practical terms, what does that look like?

  • We embrace and obey His commands as life-giving instructions rather than rules that rob us of the good life.
  • We read His word and discover His thoughts and values for the purpose of making them our own.
  • We grow our relationship with Him through prayer like an on-going conversation with a dear friend.
  • We invite His Spirit to fully indwell, control us, and change us so that we reflect Christ’s image to those around us.

Christ offers Himself as our hiding place from our enemy. This comes as a free gift to us, but it cost Him his life. Let’s avail ourselves of His invitation to find safety in His presence and care, and let’s acknowledge the sacrifice He’s made for this offer to stand.

A prayer for you

“Jesus, thank You for being our hiding place. We do not take this offer for granted. We appreciate what You’ve done to make this available to us. Thank You for protecting us from the enemy of our souls. You indeed surround us with songs of victory. In Your name we pray, amen.”

Know you are loved,

Grace
