Fear Not: God Holds You in His Hand

Fear not: God holds you in his hand

This God whose strength supersedes anything we can imagine is the same God who holds us in His hand. There’s no safer place to be.

Living in a marina has helped me better understand the life-giving truth about God holding us in His hand.

Every time I see the marina’s sling lift a boat from the river, I marvel at its strength. Once it lifts the vessel from the river, it carries it on wheels across the tarmac to a berth where it stays until repairs are complete. Then the sling carries it back to the dock and lowers it into the water.

To say that a boat weighs a ton is an understatement. Our sailboat weighs about 14 tons, and it’s nowhere near as big as some of the vessels that show up here. So, the sling is strong, but its strength is nothing compared to God’s strong hand.

God’s strength exceeds our comprehension

I watched the sling at work when I went for a walk along the river recently. Impressed as always, I was. But how much more should I stand in awe of the living God?

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? (Isaiah 40:12)

The marina sling can hold the weight of a vessel. But the almighty God holds every ocean, sea, bay, cove, river, and stream in His hand. He holds the basket that contains all the dust of the earth. He weighs mountains on scales and hills in a balance.

Our limited minds can’t fathom God’s size. We can’t comprehend His strength. We can’t understand His power. But we can choose to believe this revelation about who He is and then let that truth transform our lives.

Fear not: God holds you in His hand

This God whose strength supersedes anything we can imagine is the same God who holds us in His hand. He carries us when we’re weak. He cradles us when we’re lonely or afraid or discouraged. He shields us from the enemy who seeks to discourage us, or worse.

When uncertainty on a national or global scale hovers over you, live from the truth that God’s hand holds you.

When anxious thoughts about your loved ones’ well-being haunts you, live from the truth that God’s hand holds you.

When feelings of insecurity hang around you, live from the truth that God’s hand holds you.

You and I have no reason to fear when we’re cradled in and covered by God’s strong hand. There’s no safer place to be. He’s got this, and He’s got us. He’s got you. Everything is going to be okay.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
May I pray for you?

“Almighty God, thank You for holding us in Your hand. Remind us of this truth when we feel afraid or weary or discouraged. Give us a deeper understanding of what this means, and help us live like we believe it’s true. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Know you are loved,

Grace

  1. Thank you for your words of truth and comfort in these turbulent political times. I was talking with my sisters yesterday, and the days are not only evil, but frightening. We all need a reminder that we’re in God’s hands and that He’s got this.

    1. Hi Diana:

Yes, yes, yes! We are living in tumultuous times but God has us in His hands. I keep thinking about His name “El Elyon” — He is boss and always has the final say. His purposes — not man’s — will stand.

    1. Hi Gina:

You’re right — being intentional about focusing on God and His blessings takes effort because our human minds tend to lean naturally towards the negative. But the Holy Spirit helps us do what honors the Lord, so we don’t have to rely on our own strength to do this. I’m glad you’re incorporating this discipline into your life. It’s worth it.
