Whether good ol’ hymns or contemporary worship songs, music that turns my thoughts toward God has always ministered deeply to me. I often listen to worship songs when I’m driving, when I’m cleaning my boat-home, and when I go for walks. The lyrics wash away my worries and usher my heart into a place of rest and peace.

Writing Names of God: Living Unafraid and Names of God: Knowing Peace has deepened my appreciation for lyrics that mention God’s character either directly by one of His biblical names or indirectly by declaring His attributes and works. Even songs I’ve sung for years have assumed new, rich meaning for me because my understanding of God’s names has grown, and this helps me better understand the writer’s intended message.

Some of the songs in this playlist may be familiar to you, but perhaps some are new. You’ll notice that several share titles—don’t let that fool you. They’re different songs by different artists. Only “The Lord’s Prayer” is a repeat, but I chose this intentionally because the versions are entirely different from one another.
