My Gift to You: A Christmas Prayer

This Christmas, reflect on the wonder of who Jesus is and what He’s done for you. Feel free to use the following Christmas prayer. It’s my gift to you.
Amid these busy hours, I encourage you to spend a few minutes of silence with the Savior. Reflect on the wonder of who He is and what He’s done for you. Feel free to use the following Christmas prayer if you wish. It’s my gift to you. Merry Christmas, and know you are loved.
A Christmas Prayer
“Heavenly Father, thank You coming to earth in human form to demonstrate Your love for mankind. Thank You for humbling Yourself to become a servant for our sake. Thank You for lighting up our darkness with Your presence.
We celebrate these divine gifts to us by giving gifts to others, and we commemorate Your birth with traditions: we string lights on eaves, hang wreaths on doors, and place bulbs on trees. We cook turkey and stuffing and watch Christmas movies. We don red and green, and we sing carols and applaud Christmas pageants.
Amid the festivities, keep our hearts aware of the true meaning of Christmas: Jesus.
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6 NLT)
We celebrate You as Wonderful Counselor. You have the answer to every question we ask. You are the answer to our heart’s deepest cries. No problem we face is too big for You to solve. You are wise, and You are wonderful, and Your understanding about us and every situation we face is fully complete. We trust Your wisdom to guide us.
We celebrate You as Mighty God. No challenge we face is impossible for You—the One who spoke the universe into existence. You strengthen us when we feel weak. You carry us when we can’t take another step. Because You are Mighty God, You make us mighty overcomers.
We celebrate You as Everlasting Father. From the beginning of time until eternity and beyond, You are faithful to Your sons and daughters. Your provision, protection, and presence know no end, and for this, we are grateful. You always have our best interest in mind. We rest in Your care.
We celebrate You as Prince of Peace. The season’s carols and pageants remind us to be of good cheer, but the truth is, many hearts feel heavy. On the global scale, wars and natural disasters have snatched lives and earthly belongings and displaced millions.
Closer to home, political tensions have birthed strife in families. Illnesses, accidents, and age have claimed those we love, and we grieve the empty chair at the table this year. We wrestle in prayer for our prodigals. The list goes on.
Amid the conflict, we acknowledge You as our Prince of Peace. You alone gift us with the shalom that passes our human comprehension. Nothing else compares. Nothing else satisfies. For this, we owe You our gratitude.
We celebrate You as the one true God who came to earth as a man to give Your life as a ransom. (Matthew 20:28) You give life to all who place their faith in You for salvation. How can we do less than give You our lives in return? We are Yours. Use us for Your highest purpose, for Your greatest glory, for Your kingdom’s sake.
Jesus, we offer this Christmas prayer to You because You are worthy of our praise. We love and adore You not just as the baby in the manger but as the risen and returning King. As the angels sang praises to You on the night of Your birth, so our hearts sings praises to You now and always. As the wise men bowed and worshiped You, so we bow in surrender and worship now and always. We love and adore You. To You be all the glory and praise forever and ever. Amen.”

You can say that again Patricia. I thought I was the only one who felt the power and passion in that heartfelt prayer for the festive period.

Hi there! I hope you’ll have a blessed Christmas, too!
May you experience unexpected delights and joy in abundance.

Dear Grace, thank you for the lovely and timely prayer and your always inspiring writing. Isaiah’s 9:6 is one of my favorite Christmas verses. I’m choosing Prince of Peace as the name that touches me the most. A blessed and merry Christmas to you and yours.
Hi Diana:
Prince of Peace is a powerful name. My next book, scheduled for release in July 2025, is titled “Names of God: Knowing Peace,” and I explore seven names of God that help us better understand His character and thus experience His peace. Know Jesus, know peace.
Merry Christmas!

Wonderful Counselor is the one that resonated with me as I offer encouragement and support to my struggling adult children. I give thanks and praise because God’s Light overcomes the darkness. Thank you, Grace, for sharing a prayer and a beautiful song. It was a great way to start my Christmas morning–to have joy in the miracle of Jesus’ birth despite our challenges.

You have inspired me to research the many names of God. It is so thrilling to see the specific name that is used.
From Isaiah 9:6, I have recently been praying to the “wonder of a counselor” for guidance, advice and help in my marriage and with my adult kids
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Feliz Navidad from Mexico.
Hi Becky!
“Wonderful counselor” brings hope that no matter what we’re dealing with, He has the answers. I like how you described it “wonder of a counselor.” Jesus is indeed a wonder of a counselor!
May your Christmas be filled with joy and peace overflowing, my friend.

Hi Penny:
Thank you for your kind words, and may God bless you and yours, too. May the new year be filled with unexpected delights!

I really admire your blog and the fact that you love to read the Bible because you are a like-minded person. It is hard to find like-minded people who share our values in these wonderful times. I would advise subscribers to read the Bible 20 pages a day, so in 4 months you will have read it. I managed to read the Bible 2 times, it helps a lot to become a better person and avoid the false teachings that Jesus warned about. Good luck in your endeavors and may the Lord protect you and your subscribers.
Hi there!
Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your love for the Word, too. It’s alive and speaks to us no matter what our circumstances are, yes? I make it my goal to read through the Bible every year. There are lots of good reading plans out there. The one I use has a daily reading for the OT, NT, Psalms and Proverbs. It’s fascinating to see common themes woven throughout the OT and NT.
Blessings,
Grace
