Here’s My Special Focus Word for 2024
Each January, I prayerfully ask God for the word He knows will inspire personal growth and help me persevere through year. Here is this year’s word.

The question, “How do we keep our focus on Jesus?” has no one-size-fits-all answer because every person’s situation is different.
Truths about God are enough to begin and end everyday with a song of joy. He is powerful, filled with lovingkindness, and ready to be our refuge and strength.
How often do we look at our circumstances, assume we know everything there is to know about them, and fall into discouragement or fear?
Praising God shifts our focus from our fears and failures to the character of the One who never disappoints or abandons us. And joy is born.
Let’s put our hope in God’s word. He vowed to never forsake us. He promised to be our refuge, our guide, our wisdom, and our provider
I find renewed hope when I cling to the truth that God will never let our pain go to waste. He will always make it beneficial to us when we work with Him.
Where we fix our focus determines our destiny. Turn your eyes from worthless things. Focus on Jesus, and you’ll discover the abundant life He intended for you.
We run into trouble when we let our focus linger where it shouldn’t, so the moment we’re aware of our lapse, we need to put it back on Jesus.
Scripture tells us to “keep our focus on Jesus”. Losing that makes everything go wonky, but keeping it helps us
maintain spiritual equilibrium.
Satan knows how to attack Christ’s followers and he wants to defeat us but Christ is our hiding place. He surrounds us with songs of victory and unfailing love.
Several years ago I began choosing one special word at the start of a new year. For 2017, my one word is “see.” Here are a few thoughts that it brings to mind.
In this crazy busy season, we sing about silent nights and calm. The irony is that we feel anything but calm and finding silence is nearly impossible.
Busyness can rob us of the deeper life for which God created us. Let’s ensure that doesn’t happen by keeping our relationship with Him our top priority.
Comparing ourselves to others quickly traps us in an attitude of either inferiority or superiority. How then can we avoid falling into this trap?
As long as we’re warm and breathing, we face challenges of every sort. If we focus on them, we soon convince ourselves that they’re too big for us to handle.
Remembering who God is gives us the courage and ability to do what He says. It enables us to “be anxious for nothing” and to “give thanks in everything.”
Praise diminishes our fear by reminding us that God holds us and controls every detail of our lives. We can rest in His wisdom and ways.
Fear is rampant but it needn’t paralyze us. Here’s how we can move from fear to freedom.
Do you feel the tension between doing and being? I do.
