10 Biblical Promises to Help Bring Inner Peace

God’s promises address our deepest needs. Living from their truth moves our souls from a place of angst and pain to a place of inner peace amid outer conflict.
Today marks the release of Names of God: Knowing Peace, and the title seems more than timely, don’t you think? In a world marred with war, political turmoil, and so much sorrow on so many levels, our souls crave inner peace.
God fully understands our deepest needs and gave us His written Word filled with promises to address them. When we learn to live from the truth of those promises, our souls move from a place of angst and pain to a place of peace amid outer conflict.
So, what’s unsettling your peace today? Is it a health concern? A troubled relationship? Perhaps one of your kids is making poor choices. Maybe the news headlines are causing angst, or you’re worried about your finances.
Regardless of what’s disturbing your peace, turn your focus to the encouragement in God’s Word. Here are 10 Scripture verses on which to meditate when you feel anxious or afraid. I’ve used the New Living Translation for all.
10 biblical promises to help bring inner peace
Before you read further, pause for a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to quiet your heart. Give Him your cares and ask Him to help you turn your focus from your concerns to the hope and truth in God’s Word. Have a pen and paper ready so you can write down the verse that resonates most with you today, and then post it where you’ll see it often.
- “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” (John 14:27)
- “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
- “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (Isaiah 26:3)
- “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.” (Psalm 4:8)
- “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.” (Colossians 3:15)
- “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.'” (Matthew 11:28-29)
- “The LORD gives his people strength. The LORD blesses them with peace.” (Psalm 29:11)
- “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
- “A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.” (Proverbs 4:30)
- “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.” (1 Thessalonians 3:16)
My gifts to you
It’s easy to read through a list of Bible verses like those above, acknowledge that they’re good, and then go on carrying the same concerns. Been there, done that. But true and lasting inner peace doesn’t happen in a hurry. Change comes when we slow down, reflect on the Word, and assimilate it into our lives.
Today, to celebrate the release of Names of God: Knowing Peace, I’m giving you a resource to help you slow down, reflect, and assimilate. Enjoy this 10-day guide using the Bible verses above.
Here’s another gift. Pour yourself a cup of your favorite drink, exhale, and enjoy the truth about who God is as manifest in His name, Yahweh Shalom. May inner peace be yours in abundance.
May I pray for you?
“Yahweh Shalom, thank You for giving us the gift of peace. When our hearts are heavy and anxious, please remind us to turn our focus to You. Help us keep our thoughts fixed on Your truth and teach us to apply it to our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
