Letting Christ’s Love Control Us

What Difference Does it Make if Christ's Love Controls Us? - Grace Fox

What difference does it make if Christ’s love controls us? For starters, the world would look much different. Let’s do our part in making change happen.

Christ’s love controls us. (2 Corinthians 5:14)

What motivates us to say and do the things we say and do? What’s the driving force behind our words and actions?

I’ll be honest—Paul’s words convict me.

Truthfully, Christ’s love doesn’t control me at all times. Fatigue or frustration take over, and I say or do something I later regret. Sometimes selfishness or even complacency kick in. Wounding words spoken to me in the past rear their ugly head and influence my thoughts and attitudes. And others’ hurtful actions provoke a desire to retaliate or at least defend myself.

Paul’s four words help me refocus

They offer a measuring stick by which to gauge everything said and done.

Imagine what the world would look like if the love of Christ truly controlled us:

  • Our financial giving to missions and to the poor would escalate. Spending on frivolous wants would decline.
  • We’d seek reconciliation rather than retaliation when others hurt us.
  • We’d put a plug on gossip and speak encouragement instead.
  • We’d tolerate sin in our lives less and be more appreciative of the depth of Christ’s love that paid our death penalty.
  • We’d give more of our time to helping those in need.
  • We’d treat others with honor and respect even if they didn’t treat us in the same way.
  • Envy and jealousy wouldn’t be a problem. We’d sincerely rejoice for others gain.
  • Racism and discrimination would not be an issue anymore.

The world would look much different if Christ’s love controlled us. Let’s each do our part in making change happen.

A prayer to begin every day

“Dear Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit and control me with Your love today. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

How about you?

What changes will you undergo as Christ’s love controls you more and more?

Know you are loved,

Grace
