Are You Wondering if Your Work Matters?

Encouragement to Those Wondering if Their Work Matters - Grace Fox

God gives us the victory. He reminds us that we’re doing this in obedience to His call, and He’s responsible for the results.

Do you sometimes feel like you’re pouring time, love, energy, or even money into someone or something as an act of obedience to the Lord and seeing very little payback? Do you sometimes wonder if your effort and investment is worth it?

Read this encouragement from God’s Word and lay those doubts to rest, my friend.

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 15:57-58 NLT)

God give us the victory

I remember when my kids were young. Sometimes my mommy workload seemed overwhelming. But thanks be to God, He gave me the victory. Every morning He infused me with the strength and wisdom needed for that day. Now my kids are grown and gone and doing well on their own. My toil was not in vain in the Lord.

Every year my husband and I attend Missions Fest Vancouver and Missions Fest Alberta. We host a booth for three days, speaking with dozens of men and women about short-term and career opportunities to serve the Lord in Eastern Europe. We return home exhausted, and sometimes we wonder whether we accomplished anything worthwhile.

But God gives us the victory. He reminds us that we’re doing this in obedience to His call, and He’s responsible for the results. No matter the outcome, our toil is not in vain in the Lord.

I’ve been praying for years for a woman wounded by her upbringing. Some days I’m tempted to lose hopel for her healing. The Word reminds me to remain steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of prayer on her behalf.

Why? Because my toil is not in vain in the Lord.

I’ve been exercising and practicing healthy eating habits for sixteen months because the truth of my body being the temple of the Holy Spirit has come alive to me. On the days I feel as though progress is slow (and cheesecake is tempting), Jesus reminds me to be steadfast and immovable in my resolve to maintain a healthy lifestyle. My toil is not in vain in the Lord.

Perhaps you can relate. Your circumstances will look different than mine, but the encouragement found in God’s Word applies nonetheless.

How about you?

What has God called you to do today? Maybe you’ll see immediate results, but then again…maybe not. Perhaps you’ll do the same task you’ve done for ages and you wonder whether your effort even makes a difference.

Don’t give up, my friend. Don’t lose heart. Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work to which God has called you. Be faithful and leave the results to Him. Your toil is not in vain.

Know you are loved,

Grace
