Smile – Someone’s Thinking About You

Smile - Someone's Thinking About You - Grace Fox

Knowing I’m on God’s mind gives me confidence to talk with Him about everything. More importantly, it makes me feel loved. Safe. Secure.

I lived in Washington state from 1985-1996. During that time, my only sister moved to Ontario so her husband could attend university there. Nearly 2600 miles and three time zones separated us. Driving that distance would take 38 hours.

Health issues and having a new baby kept her mostly confined to her home, so she knew few people. Loneliness and discouragement set in.

I wanted to help, but I had two babies of my own. Traveling that distance to spend time with her wasn’t an option.

What to do?

One day an idea came to mind: I could call her phone every afternoon, let it ring twice, and then hang up. That would be a code, of sorts, to let her know she was in my thoughts. She agreed, and she’d respond with a two-ring call to let me know she’d received my “thinking of you” message. Just knowing someone cared enough to think about her regularly was enough to bring a measure of hope.

I’m greatly encouraged when someone emails me or sends me a card for no other reason than to say, “I’m thinking of you.” It makes me feel loved, like I matter to that person. Perhaps the same is true for you.

I’m even more encouraged to know almighty God thinks about me non-stop. Psalm 40:17 says, “As for me, I am poor and needy; but the Lord is thinking about me right now…” Our day might not be turning out as we’d expected, and our circumstances might not be as bright as we’d anticipated, and we might be feeling lonely or even abandoned.

But the truth says we’re on Someone’s mind.

“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God! They are innumerable! I can’t even count them: they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up in the morning, you are still with me!” (Psalm 119:17-18 NLT)

Knowing I’m on God’s mind gives me confidence to talk with Him about everything whether it concerns me or brings me joy. It gives me courage to face my fears. More importantly, it makes me feel loved. Safe. Secure.

How about you?

How do you feel knowing God’s thinking about you right now?

Know you are loved,

Grace
