For several years, I’ve enjoyed the New Year’s practice of choosing one word on which to focus for twelve months. This year, my word is “walk.”
This Christmas, reflect on the wonder of who Jesus is and what He’s done for you. Feel free to use the following Christmas prayer. It’s my gift to you.
The season’s busyness can add stress to our lives, so here are some thoughts about cultivating inner peace at Christmas.
We all know how busy life can be. Busyness can be productive, but it can also hinder us from experiencing the beauty and benefits of silence.
We all need hope in the face of hard times. Our mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being depends on it. So where do we find it?
When circumstances make you feel like an outsider, remember that all who have placed their faith in Jesus for salvation have a special place in God’s heart.
Our circumstances might loom large and cast a big shadow, but we can face them with courage.
I’m in Romania, reflecting on the things I’ve seen and experienced in the past week and realizing afresh that I have much for which to be thankful.
God “gets”us. He knows every thought we think, every tear we shed, and every desire whether verbalized or not. He knows, and He cares.
Change needn’t be scary when we’re in God’s hands. Let’s consider it an opportunity to experiencne God’s faithfulness in new ways.

It’s important for us to have a teachable spirit. That means giving up our desire for control and allowing the Lord to take the lead. He is God, and we are not.

When life hands us difficult situations, we don’t have to let them disturb our inner peace. Trusting in God is the better way to respond.
Life experience has taught me that hard stuff happens. Knowing God by name helps us prepare for it and overcome the fear that almost always accompanies it.
God used Hebrew names to reveal His character to His chosen people. Each name was like a facet on a priceless diamond, reflecting His nature and glory.
When we face a giant, no matter how big, we can be courageous and take action against him and his evil intent by calling on the power of God’s name to help us.
Worship helps us be okay with not understanding God’s ways and to rest in knowing that, in His time, He will bring beauty from the broken pieces of our lives.
Rumination involves replaying negative events and hurtful comments from the past as well as rehashing fearful thoughts about what might happen in the future.
Inner peace is the rest that comes in knowing God’s deep love surrounds us and He holds us close to His heart no matter what happens.
Procrastination meant the Israelites missed out on what God wanted them to enjoy in the Promised Land. We miss out, too, unless we stop procrastinating.
We all have stories about when plans change due to circumstances beyond our control. Everyone responds differently. We can either resist or we can rest.
Life’s caves become classrooms where we learn deep spiritual truths. Let’s view them as places to experience God in rich, unique ways.

I’d rather do without difficulties. But reality is–that’s not going to happen. Difficulties are a part of life, so we’d best learn to deal with them well.
We all face unknowns. Some of them are small and insignificant. Others matter a great deal. But don’t be discouraged. God is on our side.
God never leaves us floundering when trials come our way. He comes alongside and lends us His almighty hand. That’s what the word “helps” means in Romans 8:26
When we find ourselves in a difficult place, let’s neither fear nor lose hope. If God leads us to an impossible situation, then we are where He wants us to be.
When God tells us to trust Him, He means fully trust. We refrain from picking and choosing the concerns we feel are okay to give Him while clinging to others.
Each January, I prayerfully ask God for the word He knows will inspire personal growth and help me persevere through year. Here is this year’s word.
Happy New Year! Like me, do you feel as though the year whizzed by? As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on the many things for which I’m grateful.
We give Jesus our load of concerns, and He gives us a gift more precious than gold–that’s how Jesus wants to work this gift exchange.
If you’re finding it hard to be happy at Christmas, know you’re not alone. Also know that your Everlasting Father invites you to nestle close to His heart.
That’s our Jesus! He’s our out-of-the-ordinary, beyond human explanation king who counsels us and leads us because He truly cares about us.
Yielding our desire for control and surrendering every detail of our life, both small and large, to the LORD frees us to rest in His care and purposes.
