Sunday Afternoon, Starbucks, and the Amputee
Nothing happens by accident. For whatever reason two strangers’ paths crossed yesterday afternoon, I pray God used the incident to accomplish His purpose.
Spending time with God and listening to and reading His Words is often all we need in this chaotic world.
Nothing happens by accident. For whatever reason two strangers’ paths crossed yesterday afternoon, I pray God used the incident to accomplish His purpose.
“I will be your God throughout your lifetime–until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.”- God
When we’re in despair or feeling anxious, praise is actually therapeutic. It transforms our perspective because it sets our spiritual sights on God.
Ever feel like God owes you something? He’s given us Himself and a myriad of spiritual gifts. Does He owe us anything else?
Don’t wait until life has drained you, and you are spiritually dehydrated. God’s Word is both your fertilizer and your sprinkling system.
Are you seeking wisdom or direction? God has promised to guide us, advise us, and watch over us. Let’s invite Him to do so, and commit to doing what He says.
How much we would delight His heart if we would run to him. God wants to shower us with His blessings. All we have to do is be there to receive them.
One young man–a special fellow who has known more hardship in 25 years than most of us will see in a lifetime–said, “I pray every night with my friend.”
When I pray for wisdom, I know God will answer. He’ll do the same for you. He wants you to succeed in life, and He longs to give you the tools to do so.
God doesn’t take a nap and then wake up to discover that–oh my goodness–something went terribly wrong on the earth while He rested His eyelids.
Unfortunately, my strong Sunday school theology hasn’t always served me well. It’s been put to the test on occasion and found sorely lacking.
We knowingly do our own thing and then justify our behavior thinking God will recant: “Okay, I see your point. You’re right; I was wrong.”
God rides across the heavens to help us. He rushes across the skies in majestic splendor to rescue us. He sees us from afar, and He rides the wind to save us.
I can hardly wait to see how God is going to draw the women from this retreat into greater intimacy with Him, transforming and using them in amazing ways.
I don’t understand God’s methods sometimes. They leave me scratching my head. And yet, I need to trust that He is in control, and He’s a lot smarter than I am.
Rather than stress about the changed plans, I’ll embrace them as an opportunity to enjoy the unexpected, to count my blessings, and to rest in God’s sovereignty
The more I read about joy, the more I’m convinced that God’s kids, more than anyone else on earth, ought to be living demonstrations of this characteristic.
Imagine Him smiling on us, taking pleasure in us, expressing delight in us as He expressed delight in His Son, Jesus. The thought warms my heart.
Life offers oodles of small pleasures, but nothing brings joy like experiencing God’s presence moment by moment. So, I enter 2012 with a sense of anticipation
Merry Christmas! This song by Phil Wickham makes me want to dance! I hope you enjoy it as much I do.
As I ponder Peter’s words, I picture a little girl asking her daddy to twirl her “more and more.” She holds her arms up as she begs for “just one more swing.”
Do I cherish God’s Word as much as the treasure hunters value their find? Do I recognize the wealth that is mine, found in the holy Scriptures?
When the enemy of discouragement tries to overtake me, I run to my hiding place–my faith in God–and find safety there. I cling to His promises to care for me.
We need to shed our comfortable Christianity and start living in a way that forces us to depend on God’s power to survive if we want to grow in our faith.
A parent loves his kids no matter their temperament, but I’ll bet one brings him more pleasure than the other. Which would it be? It’s a no-brainer.
Instead of clinging to Him, their rescuer, they forgot about what He’d done and replaced Him with a golden calf. They lavished their love on manmade livestock.
God rules over all, and yet He knows my name and longs for relationship with me. Is growing that relationship worth the effort? Absolutely!
Suddenly one word popped into my mind: Daddy. I sensed that God had spoken, but what was He trying to tell me?
The cross is the plus sign that connects the power of a Holy God with his rebellious creation. Me.
I long to be at the right place at the right time, recognizing those who need encouragement in some way, and knowing exactly what to say.
Before peppering Jesus with our wants, let’s thank Him for enduring pain and death on our behalf and for promising us eternal victory through His resurrection.
Sometimes I simply don’t know how to pray. That’s when I find confidence in using the Scriptures as my basis for intercession.
“The rest of my prayer that morning became this: Simplify my heart, Lord, to have just one request: To know You and dwell with You intimately.”
Two different orders. One said, “Stand still.” The other said, “Get moving.” Seems like a contradiction, doesn’t it? How do we know when to do what?
I read these familiar words and screech to a mental halt. A handful of recent irritations and hurts come to mind.
Have you ever wrestled with God’s ways not making sense? Honestly, sometimes I shake my head at how He boggles human logic.
